Joint recall with Health Canada, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (US CPSC) and Magnussen Home Furnishings Inc.

What you should do

Consumers should immediately stop using the chest and place the unit in an area where a child cannot access it. Consumers may contact Magnussen Home Furnishings Inc. for a refund of the retail price of the chest, less depreciation for well-used units. For more information, consumers may contact Magnussen Home Furnishings Inc. toll-free at 1-833-748-0210 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, by email at recall@magnussen.com or online and click on "Safety Recall" at the top of the page for more information. Consumers are asked to provide a picture of their date code sticker and remove the drawer slides from the chest for mailing back to Magnussen. Magnussen will provide packaging and prepaid shipping labels to facilitate returns. Magnussen will also offer to send consumers a free tip restraint for self-installation upon request. Consumers may view the release by the US CPSC on the Commission's website. Please note that the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits recalled products from being redistributed, sold or even given away in Canada. Health Canada would like to remind Canadians to report any health or safety incidents related to the use of this product or any other consumer product or cosmetic by filling out the Consumer Product Incident Report Form. Magnussen Nova B1428-10 5-Drawer Chest

Common name: Magnussen Nova B1428-10 5-Drawer Chest
Product description: The chest is a 5-drawer chest manufactured from August 2009 through August 2015. The chest measures 40" (w) x 18" (d) x 54" (h). A label located on the back of each unit in the top left-hand corner contains the month and year of manufacture as well as the model number. The date codes are printed in MMYY (month and year) format, and recalled units have date codes between AG09 and AG15, representing August 2009 and August 2015.
Hazard identified: The recalled chests are unstable if they are not anchored to the wall, posing a tip-over and entrapment hazard than can result in serious injury or death to children. The chests do not comply with the performance requirements of the voluntary industry standard ASTM F2057-19. As of September 21, 2021, the company has received no reports of incidents and no reports of injuries in Canada.
Number sold: The company reported that approximately 2,520 units of the affected product were sold in Canada and 13,200 were sold in the United States.
Time period sold: The affected products were sold from August 2009 to August 2015.
